Coaching Awards                                 (Overview of changes for 2018)

These pages are under development. The new Coach Awards went live in January 2018 &

British Canoeing will publish the course syllabi shortly.

UKCC British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor                                           (Old Level 1 Coach)

Renamed for January 2018, but in all other ways it remains unchanged.

For many coaches the  UKCC BC Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport is the first step on the coaching pathway. The qualification introduces the fundamentals of safe, ethical and effective coaching.  Candidates are trained to coach basic skills to paddlers in any type of paddlesport craft in a sheltered, flat-water environment.  A range of coaching tips, games and activities are built into the course, along with time spent developing technical and tactical understanding of these skills. The Level 1 Coach can plan, deliver and review short coaching sessions, normally with the support of a more qualified coach. They can work with paddlers at any stage of development, but will receive specific training to coach paddlers in their first year of activity, and to run taster sessions.

We do not currently have any Paddlesport Instructor courses in the diary. However, through the year  Tom will be working on some courses  elsewhere.

The Coach Awards                                                                                            (Old Level 2, MWE & AWE)

The ‘Coach Awards’ will supersede the current Level 2, Moderate/Advanced Water Endorsements, and Discipline Support Modules. The qualifications are designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers who want to gain/improve paddlesport skills within the discipline chosen. This will include coaching beginners new to the sport, or paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline/environment.
